An Easy Way to Start Learning a New Subject

When I want to learn a subject that is relatively unknown to me, and I don’t have a good background on that subject to incorporate my new learning with, I like to start with a children’s book on the subject. The children’s books are clearly written, often with pictures and explanations, and they presuppose no background at all, so they provide whatever context is needed to understand the material.

They also have the virtue of being short, quick-reading, and appealing.

After I’ve read a children’s book, I have the background AND a greater interest and appreciation, and I am better able to absorb the material in the “adult” version of the subject.
